Ghosty — Privacy Policy

1. The short version

Ghosty is an augmented-reality ghost-hunting game for iOS. We do not require an account, we operate no servers, and we never receive or store your personal data on systems we control. Your camera feed is processed on your device and never leaves it. The data practices described below belong to the third-party services the app uses (Apple Game Center, Apple's App Store) or will use (AppsFlyer analytics, advertising networks), each acting under its own privacy policy.

2. Data we do not collect

  • We do not require or offer user accounts.
  • We operate no backend servers; no gameplay data, scores, recordings, or personal information is transmitted to us or stored by us.
  • We do not sell personal information in the ordinary sense. However, once advertising ships, sharing device identifiers with advertising partners to serve personalized ads may qualify as a "sale" or "sharing" under some laws (such as California's CCPA/CPRA). Where that applies, Sections 8–9 describe the practice and Section 12 describes your opt-out rights — declining the App Tracking Transparency prompt (Section 9) prevents personalized-ad sharing entirely.

3. Camera and augmented reality

Ghosty requires camera access to render the AR experience. The camera feed and Apple ARKit's derived spatial data (device motion, detected surfaces) are processed on your device, in real time, only while you play. The app does not record, store, or transmit the camera feed or any spatial map of your surroundings.

4. Screen recordings

The in-game camcorder lets you record your own gameplay using Apple ReplayKit. Recordings are made only when you start them, are handled by iOS, and stay on your device unless you choose to save or share them. We never receive them.

5. Apple Game Center

If you are signed into Game Center, Apple processes your Game Center nickname, avatar, scores, and achievements to run leaderboards under Apple's own terms and privacy policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). Your nickname and scores may be visible to other players per your Game Center settings. Playing offline or signed out disables these features; the game remains playable.

6. Purchases

The optional campaign ("The Tapes") is a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your payment details. Apple's purchase records are governed by Apple's privacy policy.

7. Analytics and attribution (AppsFlyer)

The app uses AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement service, to understand where installs come from and how the game is played. AppsFlyer may collect and process on our behalf:

  • Device information (model, OS version, language, IP address and IP-derived coarse location);
  • Identifiers: your identifier for vendors (IDFV) and — only if you allow tracking under App Tracking Transparency (Section 9) — your advertising identifier (IDFA);
  • In-app events, such as app installs and opens, session length, level starts and completions, and purchase events (never payment details).

This data is processed under AppsFlyer's privacy policy (https://www.appsflyer.com/legal/services-privacy-policy/). You may opt out of AppsFlyer measurement at https://www.appsflyer.com/optout. We do not receive raw identifiers from AppsFlyer; we see aggregated reports.

8. Advertising

The free version of Ghosty may show ads served by third-party advertising networks. Ad networks may process device information, ad interaction data, and — only with your App Tracking Transparency permission — your advertising identifier to serve and measure ads. Without that permission, ads are contextual (not personalized). Each network acts under its own privacy policy.

9. App Tracking Transparency

Before any tracking as defined by Apple occurs, the app requests your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, your IDFA is not accessed, AppsFlyer attribution runs without it, and ads are non-personalized. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

10. Data retention

We retain nothing, because we hold nothing. Third parties (Apple, AppsFlyer, ad networks) retain data under their own published policies.

11. Children

Ghosty is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

12. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal data, and to object or opt out of certain processing. Because we hold no personal data ourselves, requests concerning Game Center data should go to Apple, and requests concerning analytics or advertising data to the relevant provider (Section 7–8); we will help direct you if you contact us.

13. Changes to this policy

We will post any changes here and update the effective date. Material changes will be flagged in the app or its App Store listing.
